A Christmas comedy kick-off on December 10

A trio of talented TV comics with sharp opinionated wit, ‘lanky eccentricity’ and hilarious ‘crash and burn’ stories are sure to delight in December’s offering from The Comedy Hall in Tiverton.

Paul Sinha – the Sinha-man comes to Tiverton

This month’s headliner is the acerbic but self-effacing Paul Sinha. He’s thoughtful and political, but there’ll be no shortage of smart and knowing punchlines. A Radio 4 mainstay, Sinha has appeared on ‘The Now Show’, ‘The News Quiz’, ‘Woman’s Hour’ and ‘Loose Ends’ as well as a political pundit on ‘PM’. He’s a serious quiz aficionado, and also features on ITV’s ‘The Chase’.

A British Indian and ex-GP, his acclaimed 2011 Edinburgh show was partly inspired by an encounter with Jim Davidson, who chatted with him amiably and then blogged about the gay Sinha as an ‘Indian poof’. This is personal stand-up, with every political point a set up for a joke, usually at his own expense. Sinha’s act is ‘sharp, and beautifully observed. His take on politics – both national and sexual – was awash with barbed wit.’ (Telegraph)

Our compere is Nick Page, who’ll be familiar to audiences as the disgraced ex-presenter of ITV’s ‘Escape to the Country’. He’s racked up three broken marriages, seven unfulfilled engagements and been done for fraud, but turns his misfortunes to fabulous comedy use, gleefully detailing stories of outrageous behaviour in hotels and drunken debauchery with lovable rogue charm. His stories of sentence bargaining after his fraud trial take on astounding levels of nonsensical logic making for classic comedy.

And opening the show, is none other than Tinky Winky himself! Dave Thompson was the first to play the iconic role in 1997. But these days, Dave is more familiar to TV audiences as asemi-regular character in both series of Al Murray’s sitcom Time Gentlemen Please, and ITV’s ‘The All New Harry Hill Show’, and ‘TV Burp!’ He also plays various roles in Harry Hill’s stage show, ‘Wild Horses’ and is just back fresh from touring with the star.

Nick Page comperes at Comedy Hall

Famous for his brilliant one-liners, odd persona and absurdist physical humour, he’s a cult figure among students, and his ballerina routine regularly brings the house down. Dave has also appeared in numerous commercials for Barclays Bank, Golden Wonder, British Gas, The Observer, Walkers Crisps and Cadburys. He’s also a talented writer and has contributed to ‘TV Burp’ and ITV’s ‘Sketch Show’, and writes for a whole host of other stand-ups including Bruce Forsyth and Boothby Graffoe. Never one to disappoint, he ‘goes down a storm with the crowd’ (Daily Mail).

Comedy Hall starts at 8pm on Monday December 10th at Tiverton’s New Hall. Tickets are available for just £10 online at www.comedyhall.lan, or from Jolly Vintner, Twyford Photography and Crediton Bookshop.
