Fast Show’s Simon Day headlines

Fast Show’s Simon Day brings some character to Tiverton

A legend of British comedy will bring many of the faces that have made his name to Tiverton on August 6th.

Simon Day has been a star of The Fast Show, Down the Line, Bellamy’s People and his own Radio 4 character comedy show. But he’ll be giving a one-man performance for the Comedy Hall audience on the stage at the New Hall. Most people will know his TV characters which have included Gary, the alcoholic car salesman in Swiss Toni; Dave Angel, eco warrior; Tommy Cockles the Denis Nordern-like TV presenter; and Billy Bleach, the pub know-it-all.

“Simon is a great name to come to Tiverton, and is planning to bring many of his characters with him,” explained Steve Lodge, who established the comedy club 5 years ago. “He will also do some stand-up as well as telling us tales from his eventful life, including borstal, drug addiction and coping with TV stardom.”

When not hiding behind characters or doing stand-up, Day has carved a successful TV career with parts in shows including Jonathan Creek, Hustle, Holby City, and as the boat keeper in the film Shakespeare In Love. He worked with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer on two tours and two series of their Big Night Out TV show, and has written a successful autobiography “Comedy and Error” which currently has a 4.5 star rating on Amazon from 5000 readers.

Comedy Hall’s compere for the night is Bath’s Roger Monkhouse, a regular member of the prestigious and critically acclaimed ‘Cutting Edge’ team at the London Comedy Store. Monkhouse is a well-stablished comic, has a prowling but easy manner with an audience, and with credits including writing for 8 out of 10 Cats has no end of comic lines to throw away.
