Jenny Eclair brings a helping of Eclairious to Tiverton

Jenny Eclair’s ‘Eclairious’ tour is back by popular demand. Bawdy, bright and irreverent, Eclair isn’t afraid to poke fun at the ageing body and mind, as viewers of the ‘Grumpy Old Women’ series and tour will know.

Her lively, self-deprecating humour, born of astute observation, will have you nodding in agreement even as you belly-laugh. A well-known face from TV shows such as ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’ (ITV1), ‘Splash’ (BBC1) ‘Loose Women’ (ITV1) and ‘Celebrity Weakest Link’ (BBC2), she’s also a hilarious contributor to radio panel games such as ‘Just a Minute’ and ‘Banter’ (BBC Radio 4).

In addition Eclair has proved herself a masterly host at ‘The Perrier Awards’ (Channel 4), ‘The BBC New Comedy Awards’ (BBC1), ‘The British Comedy Awards… The Fun Goes On’ (ITV2) and the ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ (BBC3). Jenny Eclair is one of those rare beings who isn’t afraid of growing old disgracefully, and fart jokes gleefully punctuate her material.

Tales of incontinence, badly placed tampons and boobs falling out of bras, are equally complained about and laughed over as the truth about getting older. She’s adored by her audiences – even by men, despite the fact that they function largely as the butt of jokes in her material.

Eclair was the first female winner of a Perrier Award in 1995. Also a writer and author, she has co-written a number of one-woman plays, including the much-acclaimed ‘Andy Warhol Syndrome’, (adapted for BBC Radio 4) as well as the stage hits ‘Grumpy Old Women Live’ and ‘Grumpy Old Women Live: 2 Chin Up Britain’, which toured the UK and Australia.

She has three novels under her belt, ‘Camberwell Beauty’, ‘Having a Lovely Time’ and ‘Life, Death and Vanilla Slices’, while her non-fiction offerings include, ‘Chin Up Britain’, ‘The Book of Bad Behaviour’. And there’s no end to her talents. Eclair originally trained as a serious actress and has appeared on ‘Holby City’ (BBC1) and ‘The Bill’ (ITV1). Her other West End theatre credits include ‘Steaming’, ‘Mum’s the Word’ and ‘The Vagina Monologues’. She may joke that she’s ‘best viewed from a distance’ but you’ll love her comedy close up.

Jenny Eclair is at  Comedy Hall in Tiverton on 5th April 2014 at 8.20pm. Click here to buy tickets.
